As most of you know by now, last week Saturday the 21st of April was The Ocean Doesn't Want Me album launch for "As The Dust Settles".
And as I promised, here are some photos of the other two acts that performed that night; A Skyline On Fire & Tale Of The Son.
Tale Of The Son and Eyes Like Mirrors will be joining the guys this Friday at Memphis Rock in Potchefstroom, so do go and support them as they are all super amazing musicians! And if you happen to have a place for me and two or three friends to crash that evening, please let me know :)

PS: Check out The Will To Power tomorrow for a guest post - from yours truly - on the inspiration behind the images for As The Dust Settles.

Thunder & Lightning
Had some stormy weather here in Pretoria on Saturday night! I like doing long exposures of inbound storms, but the wind almost blew over my crappy little tripod. At least I managed to get this shot!
I tried my hand at a little HDR as well with this shot.

Family
Last week, I decided to go down to the Free-State to visit my mom and sis, and also my grandparents, seeing as they were up from Port Elizabeth.
The older I get, the more I realize how much these people mean to me. Anyway, here are just two shots from my week away from the city.

Saw this herder standing on the little mound as I drove past. Just had to get the shot. |
The gardener back home. Had to get a shot of him with his bicycle. He's such a kind and sweet old guy. |

The Ocean Doesn't Want Me - As The Dust Settles Album Launch
Hello friends
Apologies for being a little quiet.
This Saturday saw the launch of The Ocean Doesn't Want Me's second full length album As The Dust Settles at Schivas Rock in Pretoria. They were joined by A Skyline On Fire and Tale Of The Son (I'll post some photos of them soon).
I'll say again; I am so STOKED to have been a part of this process. From inception up until the first chord was struck on Saturday night has been a huge build up of nerves and it was worth every tense moment! They played with so much passion! It was a site to behold and I feel sorry for you if you weren't there.
Fear not though, because the launch tour will continue throughout the rest of April until the end of May. Next up is Cape Town, which is this coming weekend.
Then Potchefstroom, Pietermaritzburg and they'll be back in Pretoria for a final show at Arcade Empire. I believe a Johannesburg gig is in the works though, so don't fret :)
For more info check out they're Facebook page here.
Albums are also available for order, so get your paws on one AS SOON AS YOU CAN, as they are limited to a hundred copies. For a digital download go here.
I also still have some limited edition art prints left.
The numbers are as follow:
Roots Point The Way - 7 left
Van Eyck - SOLD OUT
Dune Movement - 6 left
This Castle Stands Alone - SOLD OUT
Property Line - 6 left
Millais - 8 left
Until Our Mouths Are Filled With Earth - 3 left

Street Photography
Yesterday, my friend Ettiene (Ett for short) and I decided to take to the streets in search of some photo opportunities. You can check out his 500px account here. He's a super rad photographer.
Anyway; at 10am yesterday we set out toward the city. Walking A LOT snapping some random things, passers by stopping us for photos (which I personally don't really like; it's nothing against the people, I just like to capture uninterrupted moments, especially when it comes to street photography).
So after hitting city center we got in the car again, coz there was this old abandoned and burnt building I'd seen and wanted to go explore. I have a thing for old abandoned places (as spooky as they are). After scoping out the area we found the one and only entrance and spent the next two and a half or 3 hours exploring it.
The following shots are from that and one or two photos from the city.

Schubart Park - We tried getting in, but it's sealed pretty tight and they have security on every corner. I'm gonna find a way in though :) |
Ett - Rad alleyway we found behind a little restaurant. I love the beam of light running down the middle of it. |
Pretoria doesn't have super cool grafitti, but as I was taking this, the little sparrow in the shot decided to land right in the middle of the frame. |
This is where we got in. |
This used to be an assembly hall. |
Last shot of the day. |

It's Getting Cramped Out Here
As I've mentioned a month or two ago, I'd like to start "dabbling" in doing some floating in the air type photos.
Today when I walked downstairs to go check my mail the parking space below had gathered some water from a burst geyser, so I thought it'd be a rad opportunity to take a floating in mid air photo and getting pushed against the ceiling area as if I were stuck.
Now that I think about it, that's kinda what life feels like sometimes. Space on our amazing planet is getting less and especially in the city you start living "on top" of one another and it feels claustrophobic and I'm sure we wish we could just float away sometimes and escape into the sky around us.
I'm still super amateur at this, but I'm learning something new every time.
This is what it looks like after two hours.

The BIG Reveal: As The Dust Settles
As promised here are the seven artworks I slaved over for seven months. That's a long time I hear you say. For something that most people will very likely not fully grasp or understand. I'm sorry if I'm offending anyone, that is not my intention at all.
I can tell you in all honesty that; a lot of doubting, second guessing, loving, hating and a whole range of thoughts and emotions went into these photographs.
I worked hard on each one of them. Some I was lucky with and others I had to beat into submission, but at the end of the day I am very proud of what I have created and I want to thank The Ocean Doesn't Want Me for the opportunity. It was an honor and privilege to do this for a band (and three guys) I respect a helluva lot.
Here's the lowdown:
1. There will be Forty-Two prints in total. That is six per song (character). Yes, I know I said seven in a previous post, but I changed my mind.
2. The prints will be A3 in size.
3. Prices are R105.00 per print.
4. I'll be taking pre-orders (for those interested) from next week Monday.
I think that's about it. Thanks to everyone whom has waited patiently.
I hope it was worth it.
See you all at the Pretoria Launch 21-04-2012 at Schivas Rock.

Happy Easter
Happy Easter to everyone out there in the real and online world.
As a gift Warren and I made a little something for you kind folks out there who've been following our escapades and patiently waiting for our music. So, without any further ado I present you with a little sneak peek as to what we've been busy with other than rehearsing.

The Ocean Doesn't Want Me: Rehearsal
Man, I can't tell you how excited I am for T.O.D.W.M. album launch. Wishing these next two weeks away so I can just be there already.
Last night I popped into the guys little rehearsal space and took some snaps of them doing their thing. It was awesome and it's sounding so damn good. There's a surprise or two also thrown in, which I'm stoked about and you should be too!
They've just put out another song on their bandcamp page, titled "Millais" (pronounced; Mih-lay). You can go have a listen here.
Then, for those of you who still care, I'll be releasing the album art for all seven tracks next week sometime and I'll also be taking pre-orders. I'll release the pricing and all those details as well.
It will be limited editions. Seven prints per song (character).
