Lady Gaga

Whilst most people were cooing over "Lady Gaga" a few weekends ago a small group of people were gathered in the dirty streets in the center of Joburg to watch 3 live electronic acts (The Watermark High, Vampire9000 and A Skyline On Fire) do their thing in a small independant cinema called Bioscope.

Postbox Website Launch

Friday was a rather exhausting day, but damn did it turn out pretty awesome in the end!

After shooting a wedding I rushed to the "Postbox Online (Website) Launch" party at Arcade Empire, where A Skyline On Fire, Eyes Like Mirrors and Bittereinder were performing. I pretty much got there just in time for the start of the A.S.O.F set.

It was short, but sweet and they did an AWESOME cover of Elvis Presley's "You Were Always On My Mind". Love these guys so much! Play more shows!

Next up was Joburg post-rock kids extraordinaire "Eyes Like Mirrors" and after being bummed about not being able to see them the previous weekend in Potchefstroom with The Ocean Doesn't Want Me those feelings subsided and I was kicked in the face by they're sexy instrumental jams. It's so rad seeing smaller bands like ASOF and ELM perform in bigger clubs with good sound and lighting.

And I CAN! NOT! WAIT! for The Ocean Doesn't Want Me gig there on the 26th of May. So if you're keen on getting your face blown off come to this! Other bands include Truth And Its Burden, Liberty Valance and Poverty Of Ideals. For more info, go here.

Now; some photos

Bands: A Skyline On Fire & Tale Of The Son

As most of you know by now, last week Saturday the 21st of April was The Ocean Doesn't Want Me album launch for "As The Dust Settles".

And as I promised, here are some photos of the other two acts that performed that night; A Skyline On Fire & Tale Of The Son.

Tale Of The Son and Eyes Like Mirrors will be joining the guys this Friday at Memphis Rock in Potchefstroom, so do go and support them as they are all super amazing musicians! And if you happen to have a place for me and two or three friends to crash that evening, please let me know :)

PS: Check out The Will To Power tomorrow for a guest post - from yours truly - on the inspiration behind the images for As The Dust Settles.

The Ocean Doesn't Want Me - As The Dust Settles Album Launch

Hello friends

Apologies for being a little quiet.

This Saturday saw the launch of The Ocean Doesn't Want Me's second full length album As The Dust Settles at Schivas Rock in Pretoria. They were joined by A Skyline On Fire and Tale Of The Son (I'll post some photos of them soon).

I'll say again; I am so STOKED to have been a part of this process. From inception up until the first chord was struck on Saturday night has been a huge build up of nerves and it was worth every tense moment! They played with so much passion! It was a site to behold and I feel sorry for you if you weren't there.

Fear not though, because the launch tour will continue throughout the rest of April until the end of May. Next up is Cape Town, which is this coming weekend.
Then Potchefstroom, Pietermaritzburg and they'll be back in Pretoria for a final show at Arcade Empire. I believe a Johannesburg gig is in the works though, so don't fret :)

For more info check out they're Facebook page here.

Albums are also available for order, so get your paws on one AS SOON AS YOU CAN, as they are limited to a hundred copies. For a digital download go here.
I also still have some limited edition art prints left.

The numbers are as follow:

Roots Point The Way - 7 left
Van Eyck - SOLD OUT
Dune Movement - 6 left
This Castle Stands Alone - SOLD OUT

Bands: Make-Overs

It's been a while since I've done a post on bands.

Last week Friday saw the launch of Make-Overs' new album with a Skyline on Fire and Eyes Like Mirrors. The latter 2 bands I've posted some pics of before.

I remember seeing them about 3 years ago (when I had just moved to Pretoria) as they're previous incarnation, "Sticky Antlers". I was quite intrigued by this noisy band and then I didn't see them for a number of years in which time they changed they're name to "Make-Overs".

Go check out they're Facebook page here.

Back in 2008 they were a four-piece, but now it's just Andreas on guitar and vocals and Martinique on drums and vocals and I must say I enjoy they're sound. It's dirty, lo-fi, noisy rock and it's awesome.

Here are some pics  I took of them and the other bands playing that evening.
